Bio

Nelson Bettencourt is a performing artist and educator currently residing in London, England 🇬🇧. They are presently on the UK and Ireland tour of Disney's Aladdin, portraying the character Babkak.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Nelson has traveled the world as a performer and educator.


As a performer, Nelson has appeared in theatre, film, opera and concerts. Some of their favourite credits include Ross in the Friendsical UK Tour, Al DeLuca in A Chorus Line (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra), Legles in Les Misérables (Rainbow Stage), Pablo in Sister Act the Musical (Mayfield Theatre), Roy/Mark/Pete/Bobby-Jeremy in Fun Home (Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre).


As an educator, Nelson has taught voice, musical theatre and acting classes at a variety of levels. As a singing instructor, they specialize in musical theatre, classical and contemporary styles of singing. Nelson's approach draws on elements of Linklater, Alexander, Fitzmaurice, Laban, and Estill Voice techniques.


They have taught voice, music, and theatre and given masterclasses through several institutions including the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts, Tauber Music School, The Village Conservatory of Musical Theatre, The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in New York City, and has held assistant teaching positions at both the Boston Conservatory and University of Manitoba.
